Blackbird and Heron were featured in a University of Waterloo News Bulletin item on the future of climate resiliency.
This article discusses how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technologies, such as Blackbird, may hold the key to climate resiliency. The article features Heron Hydrologic co-founder and Blackbird developer Dr. Robert Chlumsky, as well as University of Waterloo chemical engineering Professor Dr. Joshua Pulsipher.
Blackbird is a hydrodynamic modelling approach developed by Dr. Chlumsky during his PhD studies, which is currently being commercialized by Heron Hydrologic. Blackbird is capable of modelling both engineering-scale and regional-scale flood models, though it’s scalability makes it particularly well-suited to regional and real-time flood mapping. Blackbird has been piloted in studies by NRCan and is currently being used in projects by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Government of Alberta.
